The course includes simultaneous practice sessions from Spanish to other languages

We are organizing a Spanish C Workshop for colleagues with a passive knowledge of Spanish from January 29 to February 2, 2018. The course will be given at our lab in Buenos Aires, Argentina over five days from 9 AM to 4 PM.

There will be a video-streaming class on December 15th 2017 to introduce the course and material that students need to listen to before arriving. Material will be uploaded 2 months in advance on an eLearning platform so participants can save time and gain maximum benefit from the face-to-face experience in Buenos Aires.

Workshop contents

This workshop offers a broad selection of training material and resources and is set up to be markedly different from the material taught in previous training sessions in the Americas or Europe.

Sessions will be taught using SI equipment in our lab. The class material consists of conferences in .mp3 and .mp4 files as well as exercises that have been designed for interpreters who would like to practice conferences in Spanish. The focus will be on fostering an understanding of a wide range of Spanish accents spoken in the Americas, which carry linguistic features akin to peninsular Spanish accents in countries such as Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, Chile, Mexico and Colombia, among others.

Our trainers have prepared the Buenos Aires SI training package in two formats: a hard copy and an eBook covering terminology and easily-confused words as well as numerous linguistic pitfalls that may come up when working with Spanish-speaking people.

The interactive eBook containing the lessons featuring multimedia courses, exercises, and glossaries is included at no extra charge.

Practical information

Students will be provided with the necessary equipment to train from Spanish into English/Portuguese/Italian/French and the eBook will be provided to all participants at the end of the course. The eBook glossary comes with a Spanish thesaurus so students can expand their conference vocabulary in Spanish.

After attending the training sessions, participants will need to complete a number of follow-up activities related to the content of the course aimed at reinforcing their learning process.

The classes will be taught by Martin Soriano and Florencia McDonough, authors and editors of Desafíos de la Interpretación Simultánea (Simultaneous Interpretation Challenges), a volume of advanced Spanish interpreter-training material. Both teachers apply the methodology required to guide future Spanish interpreters through exercises designed to improve their listening skills and update and enrich their terminology. The conferences included in Simultaneous Interpretation Challenges mirror real conferences given in the Latin American and European markets, offering interpreters the possibility to put themselves to the test.

Number of participants

The optimum number of participants is 15 to 20.

Cost of the workshop

USD700 for those who enroll before October 31, 2018. Higher registration fees may apply after November 1.

We have negotiated reduced rates of USD60 with the Unique Executive Chateau located in the exclusive Recoleta district, just 300 yards from the training venue.
